The Munich public prosecutor has dropped an assault case against former German international Jerome Boateng.
The player who is of Ghanaian descent has been under investigation for the last five years for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Kasia Lenhardt.
While the case, which started in 2019, initially stalled, it was reopened in 2021 after Lenhardt’s tragic suicide, with investigators examining whether she had sustained severe injuries before her death.
Despite suspicions raised by the autopsy report, no concrete evidence was found to support the claims. The case was ultimately closed as Lenhardt could no longer testify, and the documented injuries were deemed insufficient to substantiate the allegations. Additionally, a key witness failed to appear for questioning and later disappeared, further weakening the case.
Reacting to the decision, Jerome Boateng in a post on Instagram expressed appreciation to everyone who stood by him during the trial.
“The Munich public prosecutor’s office has finally dropped the case against me after five years. All my statements were correct, and the allegations against me were false.
“Thank you to everyone who stood by my side and supported me despite the heavy prejudice. That means so much to me.
“Now my family and I can finally look to the future with positivity. Never give up,” Jerome Boateng said.
