The quarter-final fixtures of South Africa’s prestigious MTN 8 Cup have been officially confirmed, with eight top-flight clubs vying for early-season silverware.

Among the contenders are reigning champions Orlando Pirates and current league title holders Mamelodi Sundowns, both of whom are expected to be key players in this year’s tournament.

Kicking off in early August, the MTN 8 serves as a curtain-raiser to the new Premier Soccer League campaign.

The competition features the top eight teams from last season’s DStv Premiership standings, offering both bragging rights and a competitive platform to assess squads before the league season commences.

Orlando Pirates, who lifted the trophy in 2024, will begin their title defence on Saturday, 2 August against Polokwane City.

The Buccaneers, known for their strong cup pedigree, will look to make a statement early and continue their dominance in domestic competitions.

The same day will see Sekhukhune United clash with TS Galaxy in a tightly matched encounter scheduled for 16:00 GMT.

Both sides will be eager to make a deep run in the tournament and assert themselves among South Africa’s elite.

Sunday’s fixtures begin with Stellenbosch taking on AmaZulu at 13:00 GMT.

Stellenbosch, known for their disciplined style, will aim to contain a rejuvenated AmaZulu side that has made notable improvements in the off-season.

The weekend’s action will conclude with a marquee fixture as Mamelodi Sundowns face Richards Bay at 16:00 GMT on Sunday, 3 August.

The reigning league champions are expected to field a strong squad as they look to add another trophy to their impressive collection.

Richards Bay, however, will be determined to spring a surprise and upset the odds.
