Shikinio Kundi, the head coach of the Mozambique national team, expressed his satisfaction after achieving a historic 2-2 draw against the Egyptian national team in the opening match of the group stage at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking exclusively to “Al-Masry Al-Youm,” Kundi stated, “I am pleased because no team can score two goals against the strong Egyptian national team, and we had never scored before against Egypt.”
When asked about his opinion on the refereeing during the match, the Black Mambas coach added, “I don’t like to talk about refereeing because humans also make mistakes and err sometimes, just like us coaches.”
He continued, “We analyzed the performance of the Egyptian national team and found that all players have strengths and weaknesses.
So, we worked on exploiting the moment of weakness in the Egyptian team and enjoyed the game.”
Regarding his aspirations and how far he wants to go in the tournament, Shikinio stated, “I have no idea, but our ambition and belief can take us to other levels.
However, we focus on each game individually to achieve our goals.”
It’s worth mentioning that the Egyptian national team drew 2-2, initially leading with a goal but conceding two within less than 10 minutes.
The equalizer came from a penalty awarded after a VAR review in injury time.
The match showcased the competitiveness of both teams and set the stage for an exciting tournament ahead.
