After terminating his contract with Etoile du Sahel in Tunisia, Moussa Maazou has found joy in playing football again, this time in Portugal. Despite earlier reports linking him to Kuwait, the Nigerien striker eventually joined Vitoria Guimaraes in the Portuguese first division this summer and is already making an impact.
Maazou showcased his skills by scoring a goal in a recent preparation match against Pacos de Ferreira, which ended in a 2-0 victory for his team. As the captain of the Niger national team (Mena), Maazou has faced challenges since his departure from CSKA Moscow, including less successful transfers to Bordeaux and Monaco.
It’s worth noting that in 2011, Maazou was one of the recipients of the “Ballon de Plomb” award, an initiative by Cahiers du football that recognizes the worst player over the course of a year—an ironic counterpart to the prestigious “Golden Ball” award. Despite past challenges, Maazou seems to have found a positive environment in Portugal, reigniting his passion for the game.
