Moussa Benzaid: CS Constantine sign free-agent Algeria defender

CS Constantine have signed Algerian centre-back Moussa Benzaid on a free transfer after the 27-year-old ended a brief spell without a club. The move returns the defender to Ligue 1 in Algeria, with Benzaid joining the Constantine side as a free agent on 7 July 2026 following his departure from Swehly SC in Libya earlier in the year.

Benzaid, who stands at 1.80m and is primarily deployed as a central defender, was born in Ouargla and holds Algerian nationality. His arrival gives CS Constantine an experienced option at the heart of their back line, adding a player with previous top-flight experience in the Algerian game and recent exposure to football outside the country.

The defenders career has included a notable spell at JS Kabylie, where his market value rose significantly. Valued at 125,000 in late 2021, his estimated worth increased to as high as 450,000 by mid-2023 during his time with the Tizi Ouzou club. His current market value stands at 325,000.

Benzaid left JS Kabylie for Libyan side Swehly SC in February 2025, before becoming unattached in February 2026. His move to CS Constantine ends that period without a team and marks his latest step in a career that has also featured earlier domestic stints with HB Chelghoum Laid and CA Bordj Bou Arreridj at under-21 level.

By securing Benzaid on a free transfer, CS Constantine add a domestically developed defender with both Algerian Ligue 1 and Libyan league experience ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
