Mouscron add Cameroon-Spain goalkeeper Christophe Atangana to their ranks

Christophe Atangana, the Cameroon and Spain goalkeeper, has joined Mouscron on a free transfer from Sp. Bruxelles.

The 26-year-old has agreed a contract with Mouscron running until 30 June 2027. He becomes part of the club’s squad in the 2de Nationale FFA after leaving Sp. Bruxelles, whom he joined in January 2026 following a spell without a club.

Atangana spent the second half of the 2025-26 season with Sp. Bruxelles before switching to Mouscron. His move represents a return to Belgium after previously developing in the Spanish game and later playing abroad.

Born in Douala, Cameroon, Atangana began his senior career with CD Basconia after coming through Bilbao U19. He subsequently spent time with SD Leioa and Somorrostro on loan, before returning to Bilbao Athletic. His time with Bilbao Athletic included further experience in Spain’s club system before he moved overseas.

In July 2021, Atangana left Bilbao Athletic to join Azerbaijan’s FK Gabala on a free transfer. He spent three seasons with the club and was part of the side that won the Azerbaijani Cup in the 2022-23 campaign.

Atangana departed Gabala in August 2024 and was without a club until joining Sp. Bruxelles the following January. His latest move provides Mouscron with a goalkeeper who has played in Belgium, Spain and Azerbaijan during his career.

The 1.82m goalkeeper is right-footed and brings experience from several different football environments to his new club. His previous career has included both permanent moves and loan spells, with his time at SD Leioa and Somorrostro coming as temporary transfers from Bilbao Athletic.

Mouscron have now secured Atangana’s services without a transfer fee, with the goalkeeper’s contract set to run for the remainder of the 2026-27 season and into the following summer. The move was completed on 4 August 2026, as Atangana left Sp. Bruxelles to begin the next chapter of his career with Mouscron.
