Mouez Hassen Chooses France—for Now
Young OGC Nice goalkeeper Mouez Hassen, long seen as a potential future star for the Tunisian national team, has been called up by France’s U20 side for a pair of friendly matches against the Czech Republic on October 7 and 9. The call-up represents a significant step in Hassen’s international career and a blow to Tunisia’s hopes of securing his services.
While the Franco-Tunisian keeper’s performances at club level have been impressive, raising his profile, this move suggests he is leaning toward representing Les Bleus—at least for the time being. Tunisia’s football authorities had reportedly made strong efforts to convince him to commit to the Carthage Eagles.
However, the door is not yet closed. Since Hassen has not featured for France at senior level, FIFA eligibility rules allow him to switch national allegiances in the future. Tunisian officials may still have a window to persuade him—especially if a senior call-up from France doesn’t materialize in the near term.
For now, though, France has the edge.
