Motsepe checks Afcon 2027 preparations during visits to Tanzania and Kenya

Caf president Patrice Motsepe has visited Tanzania and Kenya to assess preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania under the Pamoja bid.

Motsepe met Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dar es Salaam on Thursday before travelling to Nairobi the following day for talks with Kenya’s President William Ruto.

During his visit to Tanzania, Motsepe offered his condolences to Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband. He also inspected the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam to review the progress of work ahead of the tournament.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan reiterated the Tanzanian government’s commitment to delivering a successful Africa Cup of Nations in a country with a strong football following.

Tanzania is home to prominent clubs including Simba SC, Young Africans SC and Azam FC. Young Africans SC and Simba SC are representing the country in this season’s Champions League and have both advanced to the next round of the qualifiers.

In Kenya, Motsepe’s meeting with President William Ruto was attended by a Caf delegation, representatives of the Kenyan government, Kenyan football officials and members of the tournament’s local organising committee.

“On our part, we assured Caf that we are committed to hosting a successful event. Everything is therefore being done to make sure that all the necessary infrastructure is ready on time and at the required standard,” said Ruto.

“We are committed to showcasing a classic football bonanza for Africa and the world. Kenyans will display their love, passion and talent for the game during the tournament,” he added.
