Al Ahly have confirmed that goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir has extended his contract with the Egyptian club until 2029, ending uncertainty over his future after he attracted several offers following his appearance at the most recent World Cup with Egypt.
The club announced the agreement on Tuesday, confirming that Shobeir put pen to paper after completing the team’s training session.
In an official statement, Al Ahly said: “Mostafa Shobeir, goalkeeper of the club’s first football team, extended his contract with the club until 2029 after today’s training session.”
The announcement brings an end to months of speculation surrounding the 26-year-old goalkeeper, whose previous agreement was due to expire at the end of the current season. Negotiations had taken place between the player and the club in recent months before the two sides reached a formal agreement.
Al Ahly added that the contract extension was completed during a meeting between Shobeir and Dr Essam Serag, the club’s head of contracts.
The statement continued: “This took place during the meeting between the player and Dr Essam Serag, head of the contracts sector, who completed all the administrative and financial procedures in accordance with the club’s rules in this regard. This was done in full co-ordination with Captain Wael Gomaa, the football director. The player expressed his happiness at extending his contract and continuing his career with Al Ahly in the coming years.”
Shobeir’s future had become a subject of attention after his involvement with the Egypt national team at the latest World Cup. His performances and international exposure led to a number of offers, creating uncertainty over whether he would remain with Al Ahly once his previous contract reached its conclusion.
The new agreement ensures that he will continue his career at the club through 2029, subject to the terms confirmed by Al Ahly. The club described the renewal as a completed administrative and financial process rather than outlining further details of the deal.
The goalkeeper’s contract situation had been under discussion for several months, with negotiations continuing before Tuesday’s announcement. Al Ahly’s confirmation now formally settles the matter and establishes a long-term commitment between the player and the club.
Shobeir also made clear his satisfaction with the decision, according to the club’s statement, and is expected to continue his association with Al Ahly over the coming years.
The announcement was issued after the team’s training session and followed the conclusion of the talks between the player and the club’s relevant officials. It confirms that the Egyptian club have secured Shobeir’s services beyond the end of the current campaign and through 2029.
