Mostafa Shobeir accepts Al Ahly decision to reject overseas offers

Mostafa Shobeir says he has accepted Al Ahly’s decision to turn down overseas offers for him after the goalkeeper signed a new contract with the Egyptian club until 2029.

The 26-year-old was warmly received by supporters during Al Ahly’s Egyptian Premier League match against Smouha at Cairo Stadium on Thursday evening. Al Ahly secured a late 1-0 victory in the third round of the competition.

Speaking to On Sport after the match, Shobeir thanked the club’s fans for their support and said he was pleased to extend his stay with the team.

“Thank God for renewing my contract at my home. I thank the fans for this wonderful reception today. I am one of the club’s sons and I appreciate their support,” he said.

Shobeir also addressed speculation and discussion surrounding his situation on social media. He said he had not followed the debate closely and had moved to clarify the circumstances when he felt it was appropriate.

“I am not very active on social media and there was a misunderstanding. I explained the details of what happened at the right time,” he added.

Asked about the possibility of moving abroad, Shobeir stressed that any transfer would depend on Al Ahly’s approval.

“Any offers will come after the club’s approval, and I accepted Al Ahly’s rejection of the overseas offers,” he said.

“There was a Saudi offer at the beginning of last season, and I also understood Al Ahly’s decision to reject it. I am at the club’s disposal.”

According to FilGoal.com, Shobeir’s new agreement will earn him an annual salary of 25m Egyptian pounds, with a further 10m Egyptian pounds available in bonuses linked to winning trophies with Al Ahly.

The contract also includes an arrangement covering commercial appearances. For any advertisement secured by the goalkeeper for Al Ahly, Shobeir will receive 70% of its financial value, while the club will take the remaining 30%, provided the deal does not conflict with Al Ahly’s sponsors.

The new agreement makes Shobeir the fourth Al Ahly player to renew his contract recently, following Emam Ashour, Marwan Attia and Omar Sayed Moawad.

Shobeir has made 72 appearances for Al Ahly, keeping 39 clean sheets and conceding 46 goals.

At international level, he led Egypt to qualification for the last 16 of the World Cup. Egypt were eliminated by Argentina after a 3-2 defeat in the knockout stage.

Shobeir also produced notable performances during the tournament. He saved two penalties, one taken by Iran forward Mehdi Taremi in the group stage and another by Argentina star Lionel Messi in the last-16 match.

His contract renewal comes as Al Ahly continue to retain key members of their squad, while Shobeir’s comments underline his willingness to respect the club’s authority over any future transfer decisions.
