Mostafa Mohamed steps away as final day Ligue 1 campaign sparks repeat absence

Egyptian Striker Mostafa Mohamed Blames Tactical Set-Up for Goal Drought at FC Nantes

Mostafa Mohamed will not feature for FC Nantes in their season-ending clash against Montpellier, as he once again opts out of Ligue 1’s anti-homophobia campaign.

RMC Sport reports that the Egyptian forward declined to take part in the league-wide initiative, which sees players don special jerseys promoting inclusion. This marks the third consecutive season Mohamed has withdrawn from the final fixture for the same reason his religious stance does not align with supporting messages around homosexuality.

Though Nantes head coach Antoine Kombouare told reporters that Mohamed is being treated for a minor muscle issue, he deflected questions suggesting a link between the injury and the campaign.

“Yes, I know. You can imagine anything, but that’s the least of my worries. I’m preparing for a vital match for the club. A crucial match,” Kombouare said.

Sitting 15th with 33 points, just above the drop zone, every player’s availability could be decisive in their final push for safety.
