Mostafa Mohamed confident as Egypt sets sights on 2025 AFCON title

Egypt has officially secured its place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, topping Group C of the qualifiers with 14 points.

However, qualification alone is not enough for the Pharaohs.

Their ambition is clear: to claim an eighth continental crown.

Egyptian striker Mostafa Mohamed has reinforced this objective, emphasizing that the team is fully focused on lifting the trophy.

Egypt’s title aspirations

In an interview with beIN Sports on Monday, March 3, 2025, the FC Nantes forward spoke candidly about Egypt’s goals for the upcoming tournament.

When asked about the Pharaohs’ expectations, Mohamed did not hesitate to set the bar high.

“Our goal is to win the 2025 AFCON,” he stated.

Egypt remains the most successful team in AFCON history, with seven titles to their name, but their last triumph dates back to 2010.

Since then, they have come close on multiple occasions, including a runner-up finish in 2021.

With the tournament set to take place in Morocco, Mohamed and his teammates see it as a prime opportunity to reclaim continental glory.

No easy path to victory

The 26-year-old striker also reflected on the challenges that await the Pharaohs.

The last edition of the tournament in Ivory Coast saw several unexpected results, proving that Africa’s footballing landscape has become increasingly competitive.

“In Africa, there are no more easy teams. When you play away from home or on neutral ground, the difference is made by luck, hard work, and determination,” Mohamed explained.

Egypt will have to navigate a difficult path in Group B, where they will face South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.

Each of these teams will be eager to make their mark, and Mohamed acknowledges that Egypt must remain focused if they are to achieve their objective.

Road to Morocco

The 2025 AFCON, scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, will be a critical tournament for Egypt.

With a strong squad featuring experienced players and emerging talents, the Pharaohs are among the favorites.

However, Mohamed’s comments highlight the importance of preparation, discipline, and resilience as they aim to end their 15-year wait for an AFCON title.

As the countdown to Morocco 2025 continues, Egypt will look to fine-tune their squad and strategy in the coming months.

For Mohamed and his teammates, anything short of the trophy will be considered a disappointment.
