Mosimane names final South Africa squad for Guinea, Eritrea and Egypt fixtures

Pitso Mosimane has named his final South Africa squad for a busy international window that will see Bafana Bafana play three matches in eight days.

South Africa will begin their campaign with two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifiers before rounding off the window with an international friendly against Egypt.

Bafana Bafana will host Guinea on 26 September, before travelling to face Eritrea on 30 September. They will then take on Egypt away from home on 4 October in a friendly.

Mosimane has selected a squad featuring a strong contingent from South Africa’s leading clubs, alongside several players based in Europe and the United States.

Mamelodi Sundowns provide the largest representation in the squad, with goalkeeper Ronwen Williams joined by Ricardo Goss, Thapelo Morena, Thabang Matuludi, Fawaaz Basadien, Khululomani Ndamane, Iqraam Rayners, Cassius Mailula and Themba Zwane, among others.

Orlando Pirates are also well represented, with Sipho Chaine, Kamohelo Sebelebele, Lebone Seema, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Yanela Mbuthuma and Oswin Appollis included.

The squad also contains a number of players who ply their trade outside South Africa.

Olwethu Makhanya is with Rangers in Scotland, while Ime Okon plays for Hannover 96 in Germany. Samukele Kabini is based at Molde in Norway, while Sphephelo Sithole represents CD Tondela in Portugal.

In attack, Puso Dithejane has been selected from Chicago Fire in the United States, Relebohile Mofokeng from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium and Thapelo Maseko from FC Copenhagen in Denmark.

Cyprus-based Luther Singh and Belgium-based Shandre Campbell complete the overseas contingent in the squad.

The midfield options include Teboho Mokoena, while Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Lebohang Maboe is also part of the final selection.

South Africa squad

The two qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea will be particularly significant as South Africa begin their bid to secure a place at the 2027 AFCON finals, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The fixture against Egypt will then provide Mosimane with an opportunity to assess his squad in a non-competitive match before the next stage of international football.
