Mosimane completes Bafana Bafana technical team with local appointments

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has finalised his technical team by appointing Marcus Mashilo as goalkeeper coach and adding Tshepo Leuta Mahao as an assistant performance analyst.

Mashilo replaces Grant Johnson, who held the position while Hugo Broos was head coach. The new goalkeeper coach has previously worked at Mamelodi Sundowns, Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows.

His appointment means Mosimane will work with an entirely local technical staff. Morena Ramoreboli is the assistant coach, Musi Matlaba is the head performance analyst and Kabelo Rangoaga is responsible for conditioning.

Mahao has joined Matlaba as an assistant performance analyst coach after previously working in Algeria.

Mosimane said Mashilo’s experience at several clubs, including Sundowns, made him a strong candidate for the role.

“Marcus is experienced and worked with me at Sundowns and with coach Manqoba (Mngqithi), Rulani (Mokwena) and even went to work with coach Manqoba at Golden Arrows and has worked at Marumo Gallants,” said Mosimane.

“He has learnt a lot and was an assistant to Wendell (Robinson) and learnt during the time of Ibarrola (Jon Pascua).

“Marcus has been around but maybe doesn’t have that big name.

“He has trained Kennedy (Mweene) and Denis (Onyango) and all the big players at Sundowns.

“He has achieved a lot and contributed to a lot of trophies that have been won.”

Mosimane also explained the role Mahao would play alongside Matlaba, particularly in preparing match analysis and handling data.

“We also have an assistant for Musi in Tshepo who was in Algeria and is a local boy who will help Musi with match analysis and data,” he said.

The coach said he was pleased to have assembled a local bench and stressed the importance of giving South African coaches experience at international level.

“Good technical team and local also.

“For me it is important to support our local coaches and give them the experience of working in Bafana.

“It is good to have a local bench,” said Mosimane.

He added that some members of the technical staff would join the team temporarily during camps.
