Nantes fans attempted to invade the pitch in protest during their team’s 2-0 Ligue 1 defeat against Le Havre at the Stade de la Beaujoire. Tensions erupted following a fourth consecutive league loss that leaves Nantes in 16th place, precariously close to relegation.
The match was halted for over 30 minutes as riot police intervened to prevent further escalation, clearing the stands after projectiles were thrown.
Goals from Josue Casimir and Steve Ngoura sealed a comfortable win for Le Havre, deepening Nantes’ struggles.
Despite the turmoil, Nigerian winger Moses Simon escaped unharmed.
The Super Eagles star remains a key performer for Nantes, having contributed three goals and four assists in 11 matches this season, accounting for half of the team’s 14 league goals.
Simon’s efforts have been a rare positive in an otherwise troubled campaign for the French club.
