In a surprising revelation, Mory Touré, the father of Yaya and Kolo Touré, two prominent stars in African football, admitted in an interview with Radio Côte d’Ivoire, as reported by Afrik-foot.com, that he sometimes faces financial difficulties despite having two sons with lucrative careers—Yaya at Manchester City and Kolo at Liverpool.
“I am no longer an anonymous man,” Mory Touré stated, acknowledging the increased attention due to his famous sons. “Through me, people see my children and especially their salaries which are disclosed by the press. Which means that my house is never empty. I’m in demand all the time. Those who come cannot imagine that I could lack money. But in fact, I sometimes run out of it,” he added.
However, Mory Touré emphasized that these statements should not be misconstrued as a refusal by his sons to provide for his needs. In the same interview, he expressed happiness in seeing his children succeed, particularly Yaya, who has been crowned African Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive year.
“I can only be a happy father. Seeing his son reach such a level and his talent being recognized by an entire continent, it really makes you proud,” he rejoiced. Mory Touré also highlighted Yaya’s commitment to excellence and hard work, stating, “If Yaya reached this level, it is not accidental. Since he was very young, he has had a concern for perfection and good work. When he decides to do something, he goes all out. On the other hand, when he doesn’t want to, he makes it clear. He’s a man of his word and he only has one word.”
