Mory Gbane: Celtic eye move for Reims Ivorian midfielder in summer reshuffle
Celtic are weighing up a move for Ivorian defensive midfielder Mory Gbane, who is currently under contract at French side Stade Reims. The Scottish Premiership champions are monitoring the 25-year-old as they look to reinforce the base of their midfield ahead of the new campaign.
Gbane joined Reims from Portuguese club Gil Vicente in February 2025 for a reported 5m fee and has since worked his way into the first-team picture, featuring in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France. He made 13 league appearances for Reims last season, adding a further outings in the domestic cup as the Champagne side relied on his height and physical presence in the centre of the pitch.
Before moving to France, Gbane gained experience in Portugals top flight with Gil Vicente and in Russias Premier Liga with Khimki, having initially broken into European football in Croatias second tier with BSK Bijelo Brdo. That steady rise through varied competitions has attracted Celtics attention as they explore options capable of adapting quickly to Glasgow and European competition.
Reims are expected to be in a strong position in any negotiations. Gbane, who was born in Tontonou Toumodi and stands at 1.88m, is under contract at the Ligue 2 club until 30 June 2029 and is currently valued at around 4m. With four years remaining on his deal, any approach from Celtic would likely require a significant offer to persuade Reims to part with a player tied down on a long-term agreement.
