Fenerbahce are considering a move for Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou if Ederson leaves the club this summer, according to reports in the Turkish media.

Newspaper Fanatik claims the Turkish giants have started drawing up a list of potential replacements amid uncertainty surrounding Ederson’s future, with outlets Ajansspor and Mackolik also naming the Atlas Lions goalkeeper among the leading candidates.

The reports suggest Ederson has informed Fenerbahce of his desire to continue his career elsewhere, with Juventus and several other European clubs believed to be monitoring the Brazilian shot-stopper. However, no agreement has yet been reached over his departure.

No formal approach made for Al Hilal goalkeeper

With Ederson’s future unresolved, Fenerbahce are said to be exploring alternative options and have identified Bounou as one of their preferred targets.

The Turkish side have reportedly made enquiries about the Moroccan international’s situation, although there has been no confirmation that an official offer has been submitted or that formal negotiations have begun with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

Speculation surrounding a possible move intensified after Turkish media reported that Bounou had followed Fenerbahce on social media, but that alone does not indicate that a transfer is imminent or that an agreement has been reached.

Long-term Al Hilal contract complicates any move

Any attempt to sign the 35-year-old could prove difficult after Al Hilal moved to secure his long-term future.

Although some reports suggested his deal runs until 2027, Al Hilal confirmed when announcing his contract extension in October 2025 that Bounou is tied to the club until 2028. That means Fenerbahce would have to negotiate a transfer fee should they decide to pursue the Morocco international.

Since arriving from Sevilla in 2023, Bounou has established himself as one of Al Hilal’s key players, with his consistency, leadership and experience making him an integral part of the Saudi club’s success.

World Cup displays enhance Bounou’s reputation

Interest in the veteran goalkeeper comes on the back of another impressive FIFA World Cup campaign with Morocco.

Bounou played a key role as the Atlas Lions reached the quarter-finals for a second successive tournament, producing a match-winning display in the penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands.

His composure under pressure, outstanding reflexes and wealth of experience have cemented his status as one of Africa’s finest goalkeepers, qualities that could make him an attractive option for Fenerbahce should they be forced to replace Ederson.
