Morocco’s stars gain major recognition in CAF Women’s Awards shortlists
This year’s CAF (Confederation of African Football) awards for women’s football celebrate an impressive Moroccan presence, with several players and coaches earning nominations.
The event, scheduled to honor achievements from January through October 2025, spotlights those who have made a mark across competitions.
Leading the nominations is Ghizlane Chebbak, captain of Morocco and 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations top scorer with five goals. She’s joined by compatriot Sanaâ Mssoudy, both aiming for the prestigious Player of the Year trophy. The shortlist also includes global stars like Ghana’s experienced Portia Boakye and Malawi’s dynamic sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga.
Moroccan clubs and coaches are well represented, with Raja Club Athletic getting nods in the Club of the Year category, and coach Lamia Boumehdi among the best coaches for her leadership at TP Mazembe.
For young talent, Douha El Madini and fellow Moroccan Sanaâ Mssoudy made the cut. The lists feature candidates from across Africa, reflecting the sport’s growing diversity and competitiveness.
