Romain Saiss, the captain of the Moroccan national team, has urged everyone to move past the recent altercation between his teammates and players from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) following the conclusion of their match in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Taking to his Instagram “Story” feature, Saiss delivered a message calling for the incident to be forgotten, emphasizing the importance of not sowing discord among Africans over a minor issue stemming from the pressure of the game.
“Football is a sport filled with tension, adrenaline, and the like, and what happens on the field stays on the field.
Everyone can make mistakes due to pressure and the desire to compete, so matters should not exceed their sporting limits.
Let’s not allow hatred to be sown among us,” wrote Saiss.
The captain of the Moroccan national team continued, “We are all proud to represent our continent in this tournament, and we take pride in being Africans regardless of our origins.
Let’s not be divided over trivial matters. Football is just a game; let’s remain united to show the best face of Africa in this Cup and the brotherhood that unites our continent.
Africa is united.”
The match between Morocco and DR Congo witnessed some unsportsmanlike incidents involving members of the Moroccan and DR Congolese national teams, particularly between Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui and DR Congo’s defender Chancel Mbemba.
The altercation prompted Saiss to step forward with a message of unity, emphasizing the significance of representing Africa positively on the global football stage.
