Adel Amrouche, the Algerian coach of the Tanzanian national team, levied serious accusations against Morocco, prompting a swift and clear response from Moroccan coach Walid Regragui.
During a videoconference on an Algerian sports channel, Amrouche raised concerns about Morocco’s alleged influence within the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Algerian coach claimed, “Wednesday, we are going to challenge a great football nation, but also behind the scenes,” insinuating that Morocco wields significant control within CAF.
Amrouche went further, asserting that “the Moroccan football federation chooses the referees.
She is the decision-maker within the African body,” pointing directly at Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the second vice-president of CAF.
In response to these allegations, Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan team, offered a firm and composed reply.
Without directly addressing Amrouche, Regragui emphasized the team’s focus on the game and its commitment to fair play.
“We are here to play football. Our focus is on the match and giving our best on the field,” stated Regragui during a press conference.
Regragui’s measured response aimed to shift the narrative back to the footballing aspect, highlighting the importance of the upcoming match rather than engaging in a discourse on alleged behind-the-scenes influences.
As the two teams prepare for their AFCON 2023 encounter, the emphasis remains on the sporting spirit and competition on the pitch.

La déclaration d’Adel Amrouche ne m’intéresse pas, ce qui se passe en dehors de mon travail je laisse ça pour la FRMF. 👏 pic.twitter.com/HvGTZpfUEI
