Morocco’s Rabie Hrimat completes Al Shamal move after successful AS FAR spell

Moroccan midfielder Mohamed Rabie Hrimat has completed his transfer to Qatar Stars League club Al Shamal, ending a successful five-year stay at AS FAR and beginning the first overseas chapter of his career.

The Qatari club confirmed the signing on Thursday, revealing that the 31-year-old will link up immediately with the squad at its pre-season training camp in the Netherlands ahead of the new campaign.

Hrimat leaves AS FAR after establishing himself as one of the club’s most influential players, eventually wearing the captain’s armband during one of the most successful periods in the Rabat side’s recent history.

Emotional farewell to club of his heart

The transfer comes days after Hrimat shared a heartfelt farewell message to the club where he became a fan favourite.

“After the beautiful years I spent with the team of my heart, the time has come to say goodbye,” Hrimat wrote on his official Instagram account. “It is one of the hardest words for a player who became attached to this shirt, its supporters and its great history.”

Having joined AS FAR in November 2020, the midfielder became a central figure in the team’s revival. He helped the military club win the 2020-21 Throne Cup before leading them to the 2022-23 Botola Pro title, ending a 15-year wait for the Moroccan league crown.

Reflecting on his commitment to the club, Hrimat said: “I did not hold back a single drop of sweat, and I spared no effort in defending the club on and off the pitch with pride, honesty and loyalty,” while also thanking the supporters, club officials, coaches and teammates.

New challenge after international success

Hrimat now heads to Qatar after reportedly signing a two-year contract with Al Shamal, with the agreement including an option for a third season.

The move follows an impressive run of success with Morocco on the international stage. Hrimat was named the Best Player of the 2024 African Nations Championship after helping the Atlas Lions secure the title before winning the Golden Ball at the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup, where Morocco were also crowned champions.

Fond memories remain

Although he is beginning a new adventure in Qatar, Hrimat insisted his bond with AS FAR will remain strong.

“Today, I open a new page in my sporting career and begin a new experience, but I leave carrying priceless memories and great love for this club and its supporters,” he wrote.

“I sincerely hope that AS FAR continues winning titles, making its supporters happy and remaining in the position it deserves among the biggest clubs.”
