Morocco’s Mohamed Ouahbi urges focus and determination ahead of U20 World Cup clash with Korea

Morocco U20 head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has called for focus and determination as his team prepares to face the Republic of Korea in the U20 World Cup round of 16 in Rancagua.

Speaking on Wednesday evening after the team’s final training session, Ouahbi said his players remained committed to maintaining the same energy and spirit that guided them through the group stage.

He emphasized that the squad would approach the knockout match with confidence and discipline.

“The Atlas Lion Cubs will play with great determination and concentration,” Ouahbi said. “We do not fear any opponent, but we respect every team we face.”

The coach acknowledged that Korea presents a difficult challenge, highlighting their tactical organization, quick movement, and technical strength, especially in set pieces.

He stressed the need for Morocco to stay sharp and disciplined throughout the contest.

Ouahbi praised Korea’s recent record in the competition, noting that they reached the semi-finals and final in the last two editions.

He said those achievements would serve as extra motivation for his side to deliver a strong performance.

“Korea has shown consistency and progress at this level,” he said. “That motivates us to give our best and represent Morocco with pride.”

Despite Morocco’s strong showing in the group stage, Ouahbi reminded his players that knockout matches carry unique pressure.

He urged them to remain vigilant and to sustain the teamwork and unity that have defined their campaign so far.

“In elimination matches, one moment or mistake can change everything,” Ouahbi said. “We must stay alert and continue to show the same collective commitment.”

Goalkeeper Hakim Mesbahi echoed his coach’s confidence but admitted that the encounter would not be easy. “We know this match will be difficult,” he said. “We studied Korea’s tactics carefully, and we feel ready to fight for a positive result.”

Midfielder Anas Tajouart shared similar views, underlining Morocco’s respect for their opponents while expressing belief in his team’s capabilities.

“We never underestimate any team,” he said. “Korea has improved a lot in recent years, and we recognize their quality. But we are focused and determined to continue our journey.”

The decisive match will take place at midnight (GMT+1) on Thursday at El Teniente Stadium in Rancagua, about 86 kilometers south of Santiago. Morocco aims to extend their impressive run and reach the quarterfinals for the first time in their history.
