The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, has praised Morocco’s hosting of the recent Africa Cup of Nations, calling it a clear demonstration of the nation’s capacity to stage major sporting events.
Addressing the Moroccan-Spanish-Portuguese Business Forum on the 2030 World Cup, Lekjaa highlighted the tournament as a showcase of Morocco’s progress and the expertise of its companies and professionals in delivering a continental competition to the highest standard.
“Hosting AFCON was not an isolated success,” Lekjaa said. “It is part of a broader journey toward welcoming global events in the future. I must congratulate His Majesty the King, the Moroccan people, our companies, and everyone who contributed, directly or indirectly, to organizing the Africa Cup of Nations, which concluded just three weeks ago under exceptional conditions reflecting our country’s development.”
He emphasized that every aspect of the tournament—from infrastructure to operations—was managed entirely by Moroccan firms and staff.
“Everything was built, organized, and executed by Moroccan companies and Moroccan professionals. It is important to recognize and congratulate them once again,” he added.
Lekjaa also framed AFCON’s success as evidence of Morocco’s wider growth across sectors, saying it highlighted the nation’s organizational capabilities and modern infrastructure.
“The tournament reflects the momentum and development Morocco is experiencing across all levels,” he noted.
Concluding his remarks, Lekjaa linked the achievement to Morocco’s long-term ambitions in global sports.
“This edition of the Africa Cup of Nations confirmed Morocco’s commitment to exceptional organization. It was a stepping stone toward hosting major international sporting events,” he said.
His comments come as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, signaling the country’s readiness to take on prestigious global competitions.
Lekjaa framed AFCON not only as a celebration of African football but also as a key milestone in Morocco’s emergence as a hub for international sport.
