Morocco’s 16-year-old Mohamed Habib Zinbi takes next step with Atlético Madrid move
Moroccan teenager Mohamed Habib Zinbi has joined Spanish giants Atlético Madrid on a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until June 2031.
The 16-year-old left-back arrives from Belgian club Anderlecht as a free agent and will initially join Atlético Madrid C as he continues his development in Spain.
Atlético confirmed the signing on Friday after the Moroccan youngster completed the formalities required to finalise the move.
Moroccan teenager begins new chapter in Spain
Zinbi, born in Morocco on 17 November 2009, began his European football development with Anderlecht before securing a move to Madrid.
The Spanish club believes the young defender can strengthen its C-team defence while continuing his progression through the club’s football structure.
Zinbi said he was delighted to join Atlético and recognised the responsibility that comes with representing one of Spain’s biggest clubs.
“I am very happy to be at a great club like this. It represents a great responsibility, and I am very proud,” Zinbi said after signing.
Atlético also welcomed their new arrival with the message: “Welcome, Mohamed!”
Atlético plan long-term development
The length of Zinbi’s contract underlines Atlético’s intention to develop the Moroccan as a long-term prospect.
The left-back will have the opportunity to gain experience with Atlético Madrid C and adapt to Spanish football before potentially progressing through the club’s higher age groups and senior structure.
At 16, Zinbi is still at the early stage of his career, but his move to Atlético gives him a platform to develop within one of Europe’s prominent football academies.
From Anderlecht to Madrid
Zinbi’s move represents another step in the growing presence of young Moroccan footballers within European academies.
After developing in Belgium with Anderlecht, he will now continue his education in Spain, where Atlético will hope to turn his early potential into a professional career.
As a left-back, Zinbi offers the ability to contribute defensively while supporting attacks from the flank.
For the Moroccan youngster, the immediate priority will be adapting to his new surroundings and gaining valuable experience with Atlético Madrid C as he begins his long-term journey in Spanish football.
