Morocco Eyes Dual-National Midfielder Karim Bellarabi to Boost Atlas Lions
In a bid to strengthen the national squad ahead of upcoming fixtures, Morocco coach Badou Zaki is actively courting talented dual nationals, with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Karim Bellarabi high on his list.
The 24-year-old, who has impressed this season with three goals and four assists across five appearances in all competitions, recently received a personal visit from Zaki. The Moroccan coach is hopeful Bellarabi will don the Atlas Lions’ jersey for the first time in October.
Bellarabi’s strong performances have made him one of the best Moroccan-origin players in Europe so far this season, raising expectations about his potential contribution to Morocco’s campaign.
However, Morocco faces competition for Bellarabi’s allegiance. The midfielder, who also has Ghanaian heritage through his grandparents, remains on the radar of the Ghanaian national team. The Black Stars are reportedly keen to secure his services and hope to see him play on home soil at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Stadium.
As both North and West African nations vie for Bellarabi’s commitment, his decision could prove pivotal in shaping the future of either team in the race for African football glory.
