Wydad Athletic Club interim manager Mohamed Amine Benhachem has put forward the name of Walid Sabbar as a potential signing, urging the club’s leadership to bring in the Renaissance Zemamra midfielder ahead of the next transfer window.
Benhachem, who recently transitioned from a sporting director role at Renaissance Zemamra to interim head coach at Wydad, is well-acquainted with Sabbar, having managed him earlier this season.
His recommendation comes as Wydad look to strengthen their squad following a turbulent campaign.
Sabbar is currently under contract with Renaissance Zemamra until June 2026.
A product of Raja Casablanca’s youth academy, Sabbar is no stranger to Moroccan football fans.
The midfielder has had spells with several top-flight sides in the country, including Kawkab Marrakech, Olympique de Safi, and most recently, Renaissance Zemamra.
His career has also seen stints abroad with Al-Emarat in the UAE and Al Arabi in Kuwait, adding international experience to his résumé.
Benhachem believes Sabbar’s versatility and experience could be a key asset in stabilising Wydad’s midfield and helping the club rebuild its competitive edge.
His close familiarity with the player, having coached him just months ago, further fuels his confidence in Sabbar’s ability to deliver at a higher level.
In addition to Sabbar, Benhachem is also advocating for the signing of striker Amine Azri, another of his former players at Renaissance Zemamra. Azri, who joined Zemamra last summer after two seasons with FUS Rabat, has made a solid impression in the current campaign, scoring five league goals.
Azri’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with reports suggesting that Renaissance Berkane are also interested in securing his services.
Benhachem, however, is keen to reunite with the striker at Wydad and sees him as a valuable attacking option who can add depth and firepower to the squad.
As Wydad begin preparations for the upcoming season, the potential arrival of both Sabbar and Azri would reflect a clear intent to reinforce key areas of the team.
Whether the club’s hierarchy will act on Benhachem’s recommendations remains to be seen, but his influence on recruitment decisions appears to be growing as he steers the team through this transitional phase.
