A member of the technical team of the Atlas Lions of Morocco, Mohamed Ouahbi, is backing the team to win the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking on Radio Mars, Ouahbi, who played a crucial role in guiding Morocco’s U20 side to the FIFA U20 World Cup title, expressed unwavering confidence in head coach Walid Regragui and the current generation of Moroccan players.

According to Ouahbi, Morocco’s success will be driven by unity, belief, and the tactical expertise of Regragui and his technical team.

“What matters is believing in ourselves, believing in the staff, in Walid and in the team. We will do it, Insha’Allah,” Ouahbi stated confidently.

While some observers have raised concerns about uncertainty in central defence, Ouahbi dismissed any notion of weakness, insisting that depth and competition for places are positive signs for a championship-winning team.

“The fact that we don’t have certainties in central defense does not mean we lack quality. Apart from Nayef, the level is comparable. I am convinced that we will have a solid partnership. I am confident.”

Ouahbi highlighted the team’s exceptional mentality, pointing to their remarkable run of 16 consecutive victories as evidence of their winning spirit.

“What more do you want the players to show? They’ve strung together 16 consecutive victories! They’ve proven that even in the small matches, the Hakimis want to play.

“Is everything perfect? No… What needs to happen is the sacred union—that is essential. We have a competent coach who made us vibrate in Qatar… We are going to win this AFCON, Insha’Allah,” he stressed.

As Morocco prepares to host its first AFCON since 1988, optimism is building across the nation.

With home advantage, a motivated squad, and a coaching staff that inspired historic success at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Ouahbi believes the time has come for the Atlas Lions to conquer Africa.
