Pim Verbeek, the current national technical director in charge of Morocco’s youth selection, has declined an offer to act as an interim member of the Atlas Lions, the Moroccan national football team. The request came from Abdellah Rhallam, the Deputy President of the Moroccan Football Federation, who asked Verbeek to lead the national team for the friendly match against Gabon on March 5.
Despite the surprise at his refusal, especially considering his interest in leading the national team, Verbeek declined the offer because he has consistently refused interim roles in the past. He prefers to be involved in long-term projects and has not received any official offer from the Moroccan Football Federation for a permanent position.
Verbeek’s current mandate as the National Technical Director is set to end in August 2014.
