Morocco national under-17 football team head coach Tiago Lima Pereira says his side is fully prepared and motivated ahead of the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

With the tournament fast approaching, Pereira stressed that his players are eager to begin the competition positively despite having limited preparation time.

Speaking to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, the coach expressed confidence in his squad’s mentality and readiness for the opening match.

“We are excited to play football and want to begin the competition in the best way possible,” Pereira said.

Focus on mentality and confidence

The Portuguese tactician explained that managing pressure carefully remains important because of the young age of the players.

According to Pereira, the technical team is focused on building a positive atmosphere that allows the players to perform with freedom and confidence rather than placing heavy expectations on them.

He added that while the team is tactically prepared, greater attention has been placed on strengthening the players mentally ahead of the tournament.

Home support brings extra responsibility

Pereira admitted that hosting the competition comes with additional pressure, but believes the team can use the home crowd as motivation.

The coach said Morocco hopes to gain the trust and support of fans from the opening game through strong performances and commitment on the pitch.

“Step by step, we aim to win and build trust with our supporters,” he added.

Squad managing injuries and fatigue

After a demanding season, Pereira acknowledged that some members of the squad are currently dealing with minor injuries and fatigue issues.

However, he remains confident that the medical and technical staff will have the team fully prepared before the start of the tournament.

Development remains the main objective

Beyond results, Pereira emphasised that player development remains a major objective for the team throughout the competition.

He wants his players to grow in maturity, tactical understanding, and self-confidence as the tournament progresses.

“The objective is not only victories but also improvement,” he stated.

Tough Group A challenge awaits Morocco

Hosts Morocco have been drawn in Group A alongside Egypt, Tunisia, and Ethiopia.

Pereira expects every game to be competitive but insists his team will approach the tournament one match at a time.

He concluded by stressing that the focus remains on consistent performances and collective progress rather than rushing for immediate success.
