Morocco U-16 suffer heavy defeat to Türkiye in Antalya tournament
The Morocco national under-16 football team endured another difficult outing at the ongoing international tournament in Antalya, suffering a heavy 6-2 defeat to Turkey national under-16 football team.
The result marks a disappointing continuation of the young Atlas Lions’ campaign, following their opening 3-0 loss to Norway national under-16 football team.
Despite showing glimpses of attacking promise by getting on the scoresheet against Türkiye, Morocco struggled to cope with their opponent’s intensity and clinical finishing throughout the encounter.
The international tournament, hosted in Antalya, features four national sides, including Türkiye, Morocco, Norway and Ukraine national under-16 football team.
The competition is designed to give young players exposure at international level while allowing technical teams to assess development and tactical discipline.
For Morocco, the back-to-back defeats highlight areas that require improvement, particularly in defensive organisation and game management. However, the tournament also presents a valuable learning curve for the squad as they continue their development on the international stage.
The Moroccan side will now turn their attention to their final fixture against Ukraine on March 30, where they will be aiming to end their campaign on a more positive note and restore some confidence.
Earlier, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation confirmed that head coach Nabil Baha had called up a squad of 26 players for the tournament.
The competition forms part of ongoing efforts to build a strong foundation for the future, as Morocco continues to invest in the development of its next generation of football talent.
