The 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to be hosted by Morocco this year, promises to be a historic event, according to Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Upon his arrival in Morocco ahead of the draw ceremony, Dr. Motsepe expressed immense enthusiasm about the tournament, describing it as a landmark occasion for African football.
“This will be the most successful and most exciting edition in the history of the tournament,” Motsepe declared.
He emphasized the significance of the draw, which will take place in Rabat today, as teams across the continent eagerly await to learn their group stage opponents.
Motsepe also highlighted the critical role Morocco has played in advancing African football, extending heartfelt gratitude to King Mohammed VI for his unwavering support of the sport.
He praised Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, for his efforts to elevate Moroccan football, which, according to Motsepe, is benefiting not only the country but the entire continent.
Morocco’s selection as host is expected to showcase the country’s commitment to excellence in football infrastructure and organization.
With the backing of its leadership and the determination of its football federation, the 2025 AFCON is poised to set new benchmarks for continental tournaments.
