The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Morocco will host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) across nine stadiums in six cities, marking a significant milestone in the tournament’s history.
The decision follows a comprehensive proposal submitted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), which highlighted the country’s readiness to organize the event on an unprecedented scale.
For the first time in the history of the competition, nine stadiums will be utilized, an increase from the six originally planned.
The venues include the Rabat Olympic Stadium, Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Moulay Hassan Stadium, and Postal Stadium in Rabat; Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca; Ibn Battuta Stadium in Tangier; Marrakech Grand Stadium; Fez Sports Stadium; and Agadir Grand Stadium.
The tournament will take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, featuring 24 teams competing for continental glory.
Each participating team will be provided with a dedicated training camp comprising a modern training facility and luxurious accommodations, a testament to Morocco’s commitment to hosting an exceptional AFCON.
CAF’s announcement also dismisses earlier claims from Algerian sources suggesting a potential delay in the competition due to alleged inadequacies in Morocco’s infrastructure.
The statement affirms Morocco’s readiness and emphasizes the scale of its preparations, which include allocating nine world-class stadiums—a first in African football.
In a move to enhance the tournament’s logistical and organizational efficiency, the FRMF has ensured that all participating teams will have access to high-quality facilities throughout their stay.
This proactive approach highlights Morocco’s ambition to set new standards for hosting major football events on the continent.
The draw ceremony for AFCON 2025 will be held this evening in Rabat. During the event, the 24 qualified teams will be divided into six groups, each consisting of four teams.
The ceremony will set the stage for what promises to be a landmark edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and history of hosting successful international sporting events, Morocco is poised to deliver an AFCON tournament that will leave a lasting legacy in African football.
