Morocco to host 12 international friendlies involving 13 African nations during June FIFA window

Morocco is set to welcome 13 national teams and host 12 international friendlies across four cities during the upcoming June FIFA international window, further cementing its growing role as a hub for African football.

Between 6 and 10 June, the North African nation will host a packed schedule of international fixtures, including two matches featuring the Atlas Lions, who will face Benin on 7 June and Tunisia on 10 June, both at the Fez Stadium. These matches mark the final appearances of the Moroccan national team before the summer break.

In total, matches will be played across four Moroccan cities—Fez, Casablanca, Mohammedia, and Berrechid—with fixtures scheduled at six different stadiums. Casablanca, a key footballing centre, will host four games: two at the Stade Larbi Zaouli and two at Stade Père Jégo.

Both venues are already preparing to welcome teams for the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which Morocco is also hosting from 5 to 26 July.

Three more matches will take place at the Berrechid Municipal Stadium, while the El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia—another venue selected for the Women’s CAN—will also stage three games.

Alongside Morocco, 12 other African national teams will take part in the friendlies: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Niger, Sudan, Tunisia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Several of these countries are using Morocco as a neutral ground due to the lack of Confederation of African Football (CAF)-approved stadiums in their home countries.

Full Match Schedule:

  • Burundi vs Guinea-Bissau – Berrechid Municipal Stadium
  • Gabon vs Niger – Stade Père Jégo, Casablanca
  • Sudan vs Zambia – Berrechid Municipal Stadium

This international window provides valuable preparation time for African nations ahead of major continental and World Cup qualifying competitions, with Morocco once again playing a pivotal logistical role in African football development.

The country’s modern facilities and political stability continue to make it an attractive option for hosting international fixtures, especially for nations with infrastructure limitations.

Morocco’s commitment to supporting African football has not gone unnoticed. With its stadiums now regularly hosting both competitive and friendly fixtures, and with major tournaments like the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon, the kingdom has positioned itself as a central pillar in the sporting landscape of the continent.

The June fixtures are expected to draw local support as well as attention from across Africa, offering fans a unique opportunity to witness a diverse range of national teams competing in preparation for the season ahead.
