Morocco target record-breaking winning streak after equalling Germany and Spain record
Morocco’s 1–0 victory over Bahrain marked a fifteenth consecutive win, equaling the world record previously held by Spain (2008–2009) and, by some accounts, Germany.
If the Atlas Lions defeat Congo on October 13 in Rabat, they will set a new benchmark, claiming the longest winning streak in international football history.
This remarkable run began in March 2023, following Morocco’s historic fourth-place finish at the 2022 World Cup—a performance that transformed the nation’s footballing ambitions.
Rather than resting on their Qatar success, Walid Regragui’s team used that momentum to build lasting progress.
After the Bahrain friendly, Regragui expressed both pride and focus on the challenge ahead.
“Today we share a world record with Germany and Spain, two great footballing nations,” he said. “As Moroccans, we can be proud to stand alongside them in history. Our challenge now is on Tuesday, to become the only team in the world to have won 16 matches in a row. And that’s never easy, even if it might seem so.”
Morocco’s strength lies in their balance. For 15 matches, the team has shown remarkable defensive consistency, a disciplined midfield, and creative efficiency up front.
They do not chase possession for its own sake—they control space, absorb pressure, and execute transitions with precision.
The results speak for themselves: just seven goals conceded and nine clean sheets across the streak, an extraordinary feat given the challenges of international football, including frequent squad rotations.
For context, Spain’s 15-match streak came during their golden generation in 2008–2009, while Germany achieved theirs under Joachim Löw. Morocco, by contrast, is still evolving into a top-tier team, making this streak all the more impressive.
The next test comes on Tuesday, October 14, against Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Morocco has already secured its place at the tournament, meaning the stakes are historic rather than competitive: a chance to notch a 16th consecutive victory and cement their name in the Guinness World Records.
