Morocco suffers Achraf Hakimi injury blow on the eve of AFCON 2025
Morocco risk losing Paris Saint Germain star Achraf Hakimi for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations following latest injury setback.
Hakimi, considered as one of the top defenders in world football suffered an injury setback while in action for the French Ligue 1 giants in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan star was substituted before the half hour mark following a serious challenge from Bayern Munich star Luis Diaz.
Hakimi is facing 8-10 weeks on the sidelines, undermining his availability for the Atlas Lions of Morocco ahead of the continental showpiece.
The Moroccan full-back is not expected to play again before 2026 and will probably miss the start of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Currently, it remains unknown whether the enterprising defender will be included in the Morocco squad for the AFCON tournament.
The injury setback come as a huge blow to the Moroccan national team, who gearing for the 35th edition of the AFCON. Under coach Walid Regragui’s watch, the Atlas Lions finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar and aiming to secure the AFCON tournament on home soil.
Meanwhile, the AFCON 2025 tournament has been scheduled to take place between December 2025 and January 2026 in the North African country.
