Morocco striker Yassir Zabiri scores brace as Racing Santander fight back to beat Alaves
Moroccan striker Yassir Zabiri produced a match-winning performance for Racing Santander, scoring twice to inspire a comeback victory over Deportivo Alaves on matchday five of the Spanish league.
Racing Santander found themselves behind early in the encounter at the El Sardinero Stadium after Alaves took the lead in the 18th minute, putting the home side under pressure as they searched for a response.
Zabiri, however, stepped up at a crucial moment and brought Racing Santander back into the game in the 38th minute. The Moroccan international showed his attacking instincts to find the back of the net and restore parity before the interval.
The two sides went into the halftime break level at 1-1, setting up an intriguing second half as Racing Santander looked to complete the turnaround in front of their home supporters.
Zabiri once again proved decisive after the restart. The 23-year-old striker struck in the 53rd minute to complete his brace and give Racing Santander a 2-1 lead.
His second goal ultimately proved to be the difference as Racing Santander held on to claim all three points against Alaves at El Sardinero on September 12.
The brace takes Zabiri’s tally to five goals in the Spanish top flight for Racing Santander, underlining his impressive start to the campaign.
The Moroccan forward has quickly emerged as one of the standout attacking players in the league, with his goalscoring form putting him among the leading marksmen in the competition.
Zabiri is now the second-highest scorer in the league, level on five goals with Sergio Camello and sitting just behind Raphinha in the scoring charts.
His latest performance will further boost his confidence and strengthen his growing reputation as one of Morocco’s promising attacking talents.
For Racing Santander, Zabiri’s goals have already proved valuable, and the club will hope the Moroccan striker can maintain his excellent form as the season progresses.
