Morocco star Nayef Aguerd breaks silence on failed Real Sociedad return

Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd has broken his silence on the collapse of his proposed return to Real Sociedad, dismissing speculation surrounding his health.

Aguerd came close to joining the Spanish outfit for a second spell in the current transfer window, but the move hit a snag.

A return to Real Sociedad had been discussed. However, negotiations were temporarily put on hold as Marseille and Real Sociedad worked to find an agreement.

The defender also sought to put an end to speculation that medical concerns were responsible for the collapse of the potential transfer.

According to Aguerd, his medical examination went smoothly, with the results approved by both clubs. He therefore rejected suggestions that an injury or health problem prevented him from returning to Spain.

Instead, the main disagreement centred on his return-to-competition programme.

Aguerd explained that he believes a gradual approach to his return is necessary to ensure he reaches full fitness and can complete an entire season without suffering another setback.

However, the Real Sociedad coach was reportedly keen to have the Moroccan available for immediate use, creating a difference of opinion over how quickly he should return to competitive action.

The Marseille defender stressed that his position should not be interpreted as a rejection of Real Sociedad or a lack of respect for the club’s officials.

Rather, Aguerd insisted that his priority is protecting his physical condition and ensuring that he does not rush his comeback at the expense of his long-term fitness.

The Moroccan also acknowledged Marseille’s financial situation and admitted that the transfer market remains unpredictable, with the possibility of further movement before the window closes.

For now, Aguerd has reaffirmed his commitment to Marseille.

The defender made it clear that, as long as he remains at the French club, he will continue to give everything for the Marseille shirt, his teammates and the club’s supporters.
