Morocco star Brahim Diaz to join Real Madrid preseason training on Monday after break

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has confirmed that Moroccan international Brahim Díaz is set to return to training with the team on Monday as the Portuguese coach continues preparations for the new season amid concerns over an incomplete squad.

Mourinho made the revelation following Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw against Fiorentina on Saturday evening, the club’s third friendly fixture of the preseason campaign.

While pleased with aspects of his team’s display, the coach admitted that the absence of several important players has made preparations more challenging than expected.

The Portuguese tactician explained that having the full squad together for an extended period would have been ideal, but international commitments and delayed returns have prevented him from working with all his players.

“I would have liked to work with all the players for three weeks, but that’s not possible at the moment, as Vinicius Junior, Brahim Díaz, and Bernardo Silva will join the team on Monday,” Mourinho said.

Brahim Díaz’s return will provide a boost for Real Madrid as the club looks to build rhythm and improve cohesion ahead of the new campaign. The Moroccan international has become an important attacking option due to his creativity, technical ability and versatility in the final third.

Despite the challenges caused by the incomplete squad, Mourinho remained encouraged by his players’ efforts against Fiorentina, highlighting the different phases his team experienced throughout the match.

The Real Madrid boss admitted that his side showed varying levels of energy during the encounter, with the team producing an impressive first-half performance before struggling physically as the game progressed.

“We showed a fresh face, a tired one, and a third that was extremely tired. We played a good first half, leading 2-1, and we could have finished with three or four goals,” Mourinho explained.

However, he acknowledged that the second half presented a much tougher challenge, with Fiorentina increasing their intensity and putting Real Madrid under significant pressure.

Mourinho also praised the efforts of young defenders Juan and Mario, who were tested against experienced and physically demanding opponents. Although he admitted the youngsters still need time to develop the strength and experience required to compete against elite forwards such as Moise Kean, he was pleased with their attitude and commitment.

The coach further highlighted the physical commitment shown by Denzel Dumfries and Andrej, who managed to complete more than 70 minutes despite having participated in only three training sessions.

“This means a lot to me, and I liked everything,” Mourinho said, praising the mentality and determination displayed by his players.

With several first-team stars still returning to the squad, Mourinho believes the coming weeks will be crucial in ensuring Real Madrid are fully prepared for the challenges ahead.

The Portuguese coach concluded by reminding his younger players of the standards and expectations that come with representing the Spanish giants, insisting that the club’s identity must always be protected.

“I told the young players that Real Madrid will always be Real Madrid,” Mourinho added.

As preparations continue, the return of players such as Brahim Díaz is expected to strengthen the squad and help Mourinho build a more complete team ahead of the new season.
