Morocco set to face Norway in pre-World Cup friendly
Morocco is reportedly set to meet Norway in a friendly match next June as part of its final preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The fixture, approved by the Moroccan Football Federation, is expected to serve as a decisive test for coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad before the team travels to the United States, co-hosting the tournament alongside Canada and Mexico.
According to reports, the Norway match marks the first friendly scheduled at Ouahbi’s direct request. Previously, the team played two preparatory matches against Ecuador and Paraguay.
The upcoming friendly is designed to provide a realistic test, particularly given Norway’s playing style, which bears similarities to Scotland, a group-stage opponent Morocco will face in the World Cup.
Discussions are ongoing regarding the venue, with Spain or France likely options. Norway’s coach, Støre Solbakken, reportedly hinted at a June 7 date for the match, though no official confirmation has been issued.
The friendly will offer Morocco an opportunity to simulate World Cup conditions, testing both physical intensity and tactical strategies in a competitive setting.
This preparation is expected to help Morocco fine-tune its squad and strategy, giving the “Lions of the Atlas” a crucial edge as they aim to make a strong impression in the 2026 tournament.
