Hervé Renard Abandons Morocco Job to Focus on Club Career
Hervé Renard, the coach who had been strongly linked with the role of head coach of Morocco’s national football team, has now distanced himself from that possibility. In a candid interview with the BBC, the former Zambia and Ivory Coast coach revealed that he is prioritizing his current role with French club Sochaux, whom he is determined to help avoid relegation from Ligue 1 this season.
Renard, who guided Zambia to an Africa Cup of Nations victory in 2012, expressed his commitment to his work in France, stating: “For the moment, I am in France and my priority is to stay in Europe, to stay at Sochaux or to move to a better club.” The coach emphasized that his focus is entirely on his mission at Sochaux, with the club battling to maintain their top-flight status.
“The situation is uncertain in football, so I need to stay focused on my current mission. In a month, we will know where I will be,” Renard added, leaving the door open to potential future moves.
This latest development follows a trend of high-profile coaches shying away from the Morocco job. After Marcelo Bielsa, who chose to pursue a move to Marseille instead, Renard’s departure further complicates the search for a new manager for the Atlas Lions. Renard’s comments suggest that, for now, his coaching future lies in Europe, with no immediate plans to take on an international role.
