Morocco pushing to co-host 2029 FIFA Club World Cup with Spain
Morocco is positioning itself as a leading contender to stage the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup alongside Spain, according to multiple reports.
The expanded global club competition made its debut in 2025 in the United States, where Chelsea triumphed over Paris Saint-Germain in the final to claim the inaugural title. Attention has now shifted to the next edition in 2029, with several nations expected to enter the race for hosting rights.
Morocco is understood to be among the frontrunners, exploring a joint bid with Spain. The North African nation recently delivered a widely praised Africa Cup of Nations tournament, earning acclaim for its organisation, infrastructure and atmosphere.
Spain, for its part, is already gearing up to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco, and a successful 2029 Club World Cup bid would further underline its growing role in major international football events.
The 2029 tournament is also expected to feature a significant expansion, increasing from 32 to 48 teams. Under the proposed format, Europe’s allocation would rise from 12 to 16 slots, offering greater representation and potentially opening the door for elite clubs that missed out under the current structure, including the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Africa, meanwhile, could see its presence strengthened, with between six and seven clubs projected to qualify — a development that would represent a major boost for the continent’s club game on the global stage.
