Morocco prospect El Hamdaoui leaves Excelsior on loan to MVV Maastricht
Moroccan attacker Noa El Hamdaoui has joined Dutch second-tier club MVV Maastricht on a season-long loan from Excelsior Rotterdam.
The 18-year-old forward completed the move on Wednesday and will remain with Maastricht until 30 June 2027 as he looks to gain regular first-team experience during the 2026-27 campaign.
The agreement does not include an option to buy, meaning El Hamdaoui will return to Excelsior when the loan expires.
El Hamdaoui’s rise through Dutch football
El Hamdaoui began his development in Excelsior’s youth system before spending three years with Sparta Rotterdam.
He returned to Excelsior in 2022 and continued his progression through the club’s academy, moving from the Under-17 side to the Under-21 team in July 2024.
The forward signed his first professional contract with Excelsior in October 2025, shortly after turning 18. The agreement runs until the middle of 2027 and includes an option for a further year.
He then made his senior debut in the Dutch top flight, coming on as a second-half substitute against Go Ahead Eagles.
El Hamdaoui also impressed during Excelsior’s pre-season preparations, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over FC Dordrecht.
Maastricht expect attacking impact
MVV Maastricht believe the Moroccan youngster can strengthen their attacking options during the upcoming season.
The club highlighted El Hamdaoui’s pace, agility and finishing ability as qualities that could make him an important player for the team.
He will join regular training immediately as Maastricht prepare for the new campaign.
Excelsior retain long-term control
While El Hamdaoui will spend the season away from Rotterdam, Excelsior remain in control of his long-term future.
The Dutch club see the loan as an opportunity for the young forward to gain valuable competitive experience, with regular football expected to help improve his tactical understanding and physical development.
El Hamdaoui is scheduled to return to Excelsior when his loan spell with MVV Maastricht ends in June 2027, having had a full season to develop in the Dutch second tier.
