Morocco plans legal fight over AFCON 2025 sanctions
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has confirmed it will contest the disciplinary measures imposed in the aftermath of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The announcement follows Morocco’s 1–0 defeat after extra time to the Senegal national football team in the tournament’s showpiece event, staged in Rabat on January 18.
In a statement released after a meeting on Thursday, the federation disclosed plans to hold a special session dedicated to reviewing the incidents linked to the final and the subsequent sanctions issued by the Confederation of African Football.
Moroccan officials argue that the punishments directed at their national side were excessive, while those handed to Senegal did not go far enough.
The federation described the decisions of CAF’s Disciplinary Committee as unjust and confirmed it is prepared to challenge them through the appropriate legal channels.
“A special meeting will be devoted to the Africa Cup of Nations in the coming days,” the statement read, noting that legal action relating to the final is already underway.
The federation insisted its decision to appeal is rooted in safeguarding the credibility of football regulations and ensuring what it considers a balanced and transparent disciplinary process.
