Morocco in talks over additional friendlies ahead of 2026 World Cup
Morocco are negotiating two or three additional friendly matches as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, with fixtures expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
The national side already has two matches scheduled at the end of March. On 27 March, Morocco will face Ecuador in Madrid before meeting Paraguay on 31 March in Lens.
However, those encounters are not set to be the final tests before the tournament begins.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation is continuing discussions to arrange further friendlies, planned between the last week of May and the first week of June.
According to sources, one of the potential opponents could be a European national team, although confirmation will depend on the resolution of the current situation regarding the national coach.
The additional fixtures are intended to fine-tune preparations ahead of a demanding World Cup group stage.
Morocco are due to open their campaign on 13 June against Brazil.
They will then face Scotland on 19 June before concluding the group phase against Haiti on 24 June.
With the tournament fast approaching, the scheduling of high-level opposition is viewed as a key component of the team’s build-up.
March’s confirmed matches against Ecuador and Paraguay offer early opportunities to assess form and cohesion, while the proposed late-May and early-June fixtures are expected to provide final adjustments before the global competition begins.
The identity of the additional opponents remains under negotiation, but the federation’s objective is clear: to ensure the squad enters the World Cup with adequate competitive preparation.
Morocco’s run to the semi-finals at the previous World Cup heightened expectations around the national team, and preparations for the 2026 edition are being treated with similar importance.
The coming weeks are likely to clarify both the friendly schedule and the broader technical direction of the side as it readies for its opening match in June.
