The Moroccan Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by Mohamed Ouzzine, faces allegations of bias in the election of new leaders for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). However, Ouzzine addressed these accusations during a session in the House of Advisors, emphasizing that the claims of bias are baseless.
Ouzzine clarified that the role of the Ministry is strictly consultative and can only be extended in case of verifying the conformity of decisions made by the FRMF with the relevant legal provisions. He highlighted that the Ministry’s involvement is part of measures to ensure the legality of the General Assembly (AGO) within the framework of its central role in organizing sports activities in Morocco.
Regarding the postponement of the Ordinary General Assembly of the FRMF, Ouzzine stated that it falls under the sovereignty of the federation, which enjoys autonomy. He explained that the decision to delay the assembly was made for both objective reasons and due to the fact that two members from the presidential candidates’ lists did not meet the required conditions.
The repeated postponements of the FRMF General Assembly have drawn the attention of FIFA, prompting the international football governing body to contact Ali Fassi Fihri, the president of FRMF. FIFA requested the postponement of the AGO until after the Club World Cup hosted by Morocco from December 11 to 21. FIFA also sought a detailed report on the challenges and delays in the preparations for the AGO.
