Amine Harit accepts leadership role at Marseille

Moroccan international Amine Harit has revealed that he has embraced a different role at Olympique de Marseille, using his experience to guide younger players while prioritising the team’s needs over his personal preferences.

The Marseille midfielder made the revelation after his side secured a 2–0 away victory over Troyes in the sixth round of the French league season on Sunday, explaining that his experience in French football and familiarity with the demands of playing for the club have helped him make a positive contribution beyond his performances on the pitch.

Harit acknowledged that his responsibilities within the squad have evolved, with the Moroccan international now placing greater emphasis on sharing his knowledge and helping younger teammates adapt to the challenges of playing at the highest level.

“I have a different role now thanks to my experience. We have a squad with many young players, and I try to share my expertise and knowledge of the league—and of Marseille—with them,” he said.

The 29-year-old believes his understanding of the French league and the unique atmosphere surrounding Marseille puts him in a position to support players who are still finding their feet at the club.

Having experienced different situations throughout his career, Harit explained that he understands the importance of remaining adaptable, particularly during a demanding season in which every member of the squad must be prepared to contribute.

He also disclosed that the coach had already made him aware of the challenges ahead and the importance of his role in the team’s plans.

“I have been through various situations, but we have to deal with things as they are. The coach made it clear to me that the season wouldn’t be easy and that I would play an important role,” Harit added.

The Moroccan midfielder also addressed his deployment on the right flank, a position that does not necessarily suit his personal preferences. Rather than allowing that to become an obstacle, Harit stressed the importance of putting individual ambitions aside for the collective good.

“One must know how to put the ego aside,” he stated.

His comments underline his willingness to accept tactical adjustments and fulfil the responsibilities assigned to him by the coaching staff, even when they require him to operate outside his preferred position.

For Harit, contributing to Marseille’s success is more important than playing in a particular role, with his experience now allowing him to support the team’s younger members while remaining ready to adapt to the coach’s demands.

The 2–0 victory over Troyes provided Marseille with a positive result, and Harit’s remarks highlighted the importance of experience, discipline and collective responsibility as the club navigates the challenges of the French league campaign.
