Morocco maintains top African spot despite drop to 12th in FIFA rankings
The Moroccan national football team slipped one spot to 12th in the latest FIFA World Rankings released this October.
With a new total of 1710 points, Morocco stays just above continental rivals Senegal (18th worldwide) and remains the leader among African and Arab teams. The squad’s performance, including friendly wins over Bahrain and Congo, wasn’t enough to surpass Germany, who climbed into the top 10.
Morocco now sets its sights on breaking into the world’s top 9, a difficult task, but one tied closely to hopes of securing a top seed at the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Across Africa, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Nigeria follow Morocco’s lead in the rankings, while Spain holds the global number one position, ahead of Argentina and France.
Fans and experts alike are already speculating on what Morocco needs for another leap forward, many suggest tougher opponents and new blood in the squad. Despite the slip, local supporters remain proud as their team continues to fly the African flag high on the global stage
