The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is still in the process of appointing a new coach for the national team, with increasing speculation surrounding Faouzi Lekjaa’s potential role in the decision-making process. The appointment holds significant importance as Morocco aims to perform well in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in 2015, particularly since they missed out on the World Cup.
One name that continues to surface is Hervé Renard, known for his success with Zambia in winning the CAN 2012. Renard currently faces the challenge of keeping Sochaux in Ligue 1, adding an extra dimension to his potential candidacy for the Moroccan coaching position.
The Moroccan team has faced challenges in recent years, including under Eric Gerets and Rachid Taoussi. Gerets notably negotiated a lucrative contract during his tenure. However, Morocco is looking to move forward and regain its competitive edge on the international stage.
Despite Renard’s focus on Sochaux’s Ligue 1 survival, he has not ruled out the possibility of coaching Morocco. Other candidates in consideration include Pim Verbeek, Elie Baup, Luis Fernandez, and local coach Badou Zaki.
The situation remains fluid, and the FRMF is expected to make a decision by the end of March. Morocco’s next friendly match against Gabon on March 5 adds urgency to the coaching selection process.
