Morocco launches $273m tender for Hassan II Stadium infrastructure project

Morocco has launched an international tender worth 2.68 billion dirhams ($273 million) for major external works at the future Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane Province, marking another significant step in the country’s preparations for upcoming global sporting events.

The tender, issued by the National Agency for Public Facilities (ANEP), covers the seventh phase of construction and focuses on the development of the infrastructure surrounding the stadium, which is expected to become one of Morocco’s flagship sporting venues.

Companies interested in the project must provide a provisional guarantee of 45 million dirhams ($4.6 million), underlining the scale and strategic importance of the development.

Major infrastructure works planned

According to the tender documents, the contract does not concern the construction of the stadium itself but instead covers a broad range of external infrastructure projects.

The planned works include access roads, intersections, pedestrian walkways and public squares, as well as technical installations and maintenance and security facilities.

The project will also involve the installation of water and drainage systems, electricity and telecommunications networks, and fibre-optic infrastructure designed to support the stadium complex.

Additional works include landscaping, irrigation systems, lighting, urban furniture, road signs and protective barriers.

Solar panels will also be installed as part of the site’s external development programme, reflecting Morocco’s efforts to incorporate sustainable technologies into major infrastructure projects.

Local employment requirement

The construction works will be supervised by the National Company for the Construction and Management of Sports Facilities (SONARGES), while ANEP is overseeing the tender process.

Under the contract terms, the successful bidder must ensure that at least 20% of the workforce comes from the local area.

The tender documents also stipulate that Moroccan-made materials should be prioritised whenever they meet the required technical standards.

Latest milestone in stadium construction

The announcement comes just weeks after Moroccan authorities launched another tender worth 126.3 million dirhams ($12.9 million) for the installation of elevators and escalators at the stadium.

The Hassan II Stadium project is one of Morocco’s most ambitious infrastructure developments and forms part of the country’s broader strategy to modernise its sporting facilities ahead of major international competitions, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal.

The latest tender represents another milestone in the construction of a venue expected to play a central role in Morocco’s sporting future.
